After spending a few weeks with the book, we spoke with Rose Foster, author and founder of Big Lap Bible and its new little sibling, to learn why she created this detailed companion to the already well-loved guide.
Q: Rose, most travellers know you from the Big Lap Bible. What inspired this new book?
A: When we released the Big Lap Bible, it became the go-to for inspiration — helping people plan routes, discover destinations and map out their trip. While we provided information on how to plan, the core of the Big Lap Bible is destination-based. And let’s be honest, the reason most of us do the Big Lap is to see all of those incredible places.
But there’s a lot to think about before you can actually start thinking about the places you want to go.
That’s where Big Lap Questions: Answered came from. It’s the book for the nitty-gritty details — the towing questions, the budgeting breakdowns and the everyday challenges of life on the road.
Q: So, it’s more of a ‘how-to’ guide than a travel book?
A: Exactly. The Big Lap Bible is all about where to Lap (albeit with some practical guidance on planning) — the places, routes and must-see spots.
Big Lap Questions: Answered is all about how to Lap — the setups, systems and real-life decisions behind it all.
Q: How did you go about creating the book?
A: Well, our core philosophy has always been to ensure our products aren’t one-sided or from a single perspective, and that was even more important for Big Lap Questions: Answered.
We’ve spent countless hours ensuring both the questions and answers have a well-rounded perspective; they come from travellers from every walk of life — solo travellers, young families, retirees, off-grid adventurers. We built this book around their experiences, both before and during their Big Laps.
You’ll find direct quotes, gear recommendations, even full-page stories where they share what worked, what didn’t and what they’d do differently. It’s that real-world wisdom that makes the book so valuable, and so relatable.
Q: How is the book structured?

Q: What’s your hope for readers?

There’s so much to think about and when you’re first starting out, you feel a little apprehensive asking for advice on the things you think might be ‘silly questions’. You also don’t know what you don’t know!
