Map Patrol and Field Data
We map what others can’t.
So you can go where others won’t.

Meet The Map Patrol
The Hema Map Patrol is our boots-on-the-ground (and tyres-on-the-dirt) crew—out there driving Australia’s toughest tracks, mapping the places your average GPS doesn’t even know exist.
While others rely on satellites and guesswork, we get out there and map it properly. Every track, every turn, every campsite—captured in the real world, not from behind a screen.
We go where others don’t, so you can go with confidence.

What We Actually Do
We don’t just “update maps.” We build them from scratch.
Our team is constantly on the road - crossing deserts, climbing mountains, and chasing down remote tracks - to collect insanely detailed mapping data.
That means:
- Logging tracks metre-by-metre with high-precision GPS
- Recording terrain, difficulty, and real driving conditions
- Marking campsites, fuel stops, lookouts, and water crossings
- Flagging hazards and seasonal changes
But here’s the difference…
We don’t just map lines - we map experience.
You’ll get the kind of info that actually matters when you're out there:
- Is this track 2WD, AWD or proper 4WD only?
- When’s the best time to go?
- What should you watch out for?

Why It Matters
Because getting it wrong out bush isn’t just inconvenient - it can be dangerous.
Most mapping platforms are built for cities. They’re great at finding a good coffee… not so great at finding your way through the Simpson Desert.
Map Patrol changes that.
- Real-world verified tracks
- Coverage where others have gaps
- Built specifically for touring and 4WD travel
- Designed to help you explore safely

The Difference You Can Feel
There’s a big gap between “looks right on a screen” and “we’ve actually driven it.”
Map Patrol is the reason Hema Maps feel different - because they are different.
Every track we map, we’ve driven.
Every note we add, we’ve experienced.
No shortcuts. No guesswork. Just real data from real trips.
Seen us Around?
Turns out driving thousands of kilometres through the middle of nowhere gets people’s attention.
The Map Patrol has even been featured on Landline on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), giving a behind-the-scenes look at how we map Australia the hard way.
