Hema Maps at 2023 Melbourne Caravan & Camping Leisurefest

Four-wheel drive enthusiasts and adventurers shouldn’t miss the chance to hear Justin Gill from Hema Maps talk at this year’s Melbourne Caravan & Camping Leisurefest about the planning and preparation that went into his recent epic crossing of the Simpson Desert.

The annual Melbourne Caravan & Camping Leisurefest starts this Thursday, 5 October, and continues to Sunday, 8 October, at Sandown Racecourse.

Justin will be on hand at the Hema Maps stand at site 119 and you can hear him speak daily on the RV Master Stage about the 3000km expedition through the majestic Simpson Desert with Hema’s iconic LC76 Map Patrol team. The Simpson Desert is a bucket-list destination for adventurers and requires plenty of planning to be fully prepared for the journey.

Starting in Broken Hill, the team ventured into the Flinders Ranges, tackled the notorious Oodnadatta Track, through the Simpson to Poeppel Corner, where the borders of South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory meet, and then northward via the Hay River Track.

Whether it's about vehicle setup, the fuel and water used, the conditions encountered or any tips you need for planning your own desert adventure, Justin will share his knowledge and experiences. Catch Justin on the RV Master Stage on Thursday at 2pm, Friday at 1pm, Saturday at 10am and Sunday at 3pm. At other times, Justin will be available at the Hemp Maps stand to answer questions and have a chat about any of the great Hema products including maps, guides and navigators.

Supported by Truma and AL-KO, Leisurefest is Victoria’s second-largest dedicated caravan and camping show featuring the very latest models of caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes and 4WDs, plus a plethora of camping equipment, gadgets and accessories offering great show-only specials bound to excite even the most seasoned outdoor lover.

Hundreds of exhibitors will include RV manufacturers, dealers, accessories and tourism, wine, food and health and wellbeing to help you plan your next getaway.

Ticket information

Admission is $23 for adults and $19 for concession holders. Children under 14 years can enter for free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.
