Lamington

A lush area of rainforest that caters for the scenic tourist, Lamington National Park draws nature lovers from across Australia and the world. Situated in southeast Queensland Lamington National Park is known for its section of the ancient Gondwana Rainforests, home to the rare Albert's lyrebird. Trails in the park's 2 areas, Binna Burra and Green Mountains, criss-cross the McPherson Range. The Border Track offers mountain views. The Caves Circuit overlooks the Coomera Valley. The tumbling Moran's Falls can be seen from the Python Rock lookout.

This National Park Map has been produced at a scale of 1:25,000 and therefore has great track detail. The text describes 24 walks, including useful information for walkers such as the classification and amount of time to complete. The walks range from easy rainforest tracks of half an hour to the seven-hour walk from Binna Burra to O'Reilly's. To make it easy to find a walk the walks are grouped as short, half-day and full day.

Best of 70

As compiler of a book of 70 maps of Lamington National Park from 1842 to 2020, I've found the Hema 2011 map is by far the most attractive, clearest, and informative. It might now be 15 years old but only slightly outdated by a major addition to the park on the occasion of its centenary. A pity it didn't acknowledge the input of staff of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the park's manager, with those of the volunteers. There was also the missing but enticing southern half. Despite the 2019 bushfires in the north requiring track repairs, the park continues to attract man thousands of visitors annually with little apparent impact on its landscapes, plants and animals.
