Hema High Country Tour powered by Adrenalin Offroad Centre

Join us as we reflect on January’s seven-day tour through the beautiful Victorian High Country.

As we headed to Jamieson to meet our customers for the start of our seven-day Hema Tour, powered by Adrenalin Offroad Centre, of the Victorian High Country, we were concerned about the weather for the upcoming trip. Having watched the rain falling over the past week and seeing a number of waterways higher than usual had us concerned. The High Country can be unforgiving in wet conditions, so extra care and navigation would be needed. Nevertheless, we headed to our meeting point at the Howqua Valley Holiday Park and started greeting our group as they arrived in the grey and rainy conditions.

As the drivers’ briefing started, the skies seemed to magically clear to blue and the sun came out, a sight we had not seen in the past week. We had our group introductions and drivers’ briefing, followed by dinner and some drinks around the campsite. This was a fully booked tour group of 10 vehicles, and we had people joining us from New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The group was also made up mostly of father and son pairs, which is slightly different to our normal family groups that join these sorts of tours but made for a nice atmosphere of exploration and adventure amongst the group.

The next morning, we woke to blue skies and sunshine again and set out to begin seven days of exploring the mountain tops, valleys and rivers of the Victorian High Country. We tackled a mixture of scenic and technical tracks, visited iconic High-Country huts such as Craigs Hut and Bluff Hut and safely navigated our group through some of the tougher technical tracks including Billy Goats Bluff, Blue Rag Range and the Caledonia River Track.

Billy Goats Bluff has been in very rough condition for the past 12 months, making it a fairly technical drive and is not for the inexperienced. Our group did have to stop a couple of times for guidance over some of the obstacles, but overall, they made an outstanding effort at completing a very challenging track safely with no damage or major recoveries.
