Hema HX-2+ GPS Navigator

Bought unit over 12 months ago. I cannot update the software. And there is no way i am going to spend any more money on this rubbish trying to get it updated.
Hema also stopped providing the cloud service so now you cannot plan trips and upload to device.
Its incredibly difficult to use and has very poor user interface. For example You cannot zoom out so if you are driving in the country you see only 100m of road on the screen. You cannot zoom out (without some weird screen flipping 3d effect) to see the road to the next destination/town etc. Then it stops tracking in real time until you zoom back in and just see a line.
It gets lost all the time, then rather than telling you to turn around tries to take you down "side roads" - not good when in the outback and the next road is 50km away. (and yes i have avoid u-turns disabled in settings)
It randomly turns on and off and goes to sleep while you are driving.
Really wish i had not wasted my money on this. Buy paper maps instead of this piece of junk.
I really cannot stress how bad this is - arguably the worst piece of tech i have ever bought.

What is wrong with the ON-ROAD Turn by Turn Navigation it does not work and the Hema is brand new.

We purchased an HX-2+ several months ago, and have just completed a 4,000km trip, much of it through remote desert. The HX-2 performed brilliantly. It is not perfect, but it is very well suited to remote travel.
The route guidance was great for getting through towns, and it was accurate and reliable. It lagged only twice: the first time it was overcast and raining with tall trees nearby, and the other time we were in the Burnley Tunnel! Can't really argue with either of those. Annoyingly, the battery cannot keep up with this mode for more than a few hours before it goes flat: even when plugged in. We figured a way around it: use the route guidance in built up areas and between close-ish towns, then switch to the MemoryMap component (4WD Maps) for everything else. The HX-2+ runs all day like this, and charges up full. Our longest day was 14 hours of driving, and the HX-2+ never missed a beat.
The 4WD Maps mode was a real game-changer for the way we travel. Instead of having a navigator with their head buried in a paper map, we were able to trust and rely upon the HX-2+ for our position on the map. This proved far more relaxing and enjoyable on long days, and much better for passenger comfort as well.
We encountered severe corrugations on our trip. We measured the distance from the HX-2+ to the dashboard pre-trip, as we expected it to get shaken around and drop at least a small amount. The thing is rock solid: it remained in exactly the same position the whole trip.
It would be great to have an elevation feature whilst in the 4WD mode. This was really handy for us in route guidance mode, and we missed it in 4WD mode. I imagine this could be included as a simple software update, as the device obviously has access to the data already.
Another wishlist item would be to have a digital compass across the top of the device: again, its just a software update away.
We'd also like a sticker included with the kit! Free advertising for Hema.
One thing you need to do is install all updates as the very first thing you do when you unbox the device. This is fast, and though the interface for this is not exactly slick in the upload section, it works.
Another thing: take the time to read the instructions, and use a bit of common sense.
We would highly recommend this product.

Have had the unit for a few years now. In the early days it was great. Since the software upgrade many features are missing. Free Camps most notable for me. The optics are poor. The landscape and the roads are not as distinguishable as they once were.
